MARK D. DONNELLY, PH.D

JUST A MAN WITH A CAMERA AND A PASSION FOR THIS REGION

Dr. Mark Donnelly is an artist, an educator, a passionate community and environmental activist, a proud husband and father, and a man seldom separated from his camera.

As an award-winning photographer, Mark's work has appeared in dozens of regional exhibitions and galleries, including the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Burchfield Penney Art Center, CEPA, Rodman Arts Centre, Big Orbit Gallery, The NACC, Seattle Art Museum, ZGM Fine Arts, and the Art Gallery of Hamilton.

While he loves to show in galleries, his favorite way to display his work is within the many books he writes and publishes.

In his first book, The Fine Art of Capturing Buffalo, he visually showcased our vast wealth of arts, heritage, and everything else that makes Western New York an amazing place to live. He followed it up with Frozen Assets:The Beautiful Truth About Western New York’s Fourth Season, where he views the city through the lens of perhaps our most misunderstood three months–our spectacular winters.

Dr. Donnelly has also produced several other books that highlight the beauty of our city: Statuesque Buffalo, There’s So Much To Love, and he took the photographs for Celebrate Buffalo’s Waterfront, and The Allentown Detective. Mark’s newest project is A City Built by Giants, a book honoring the architectural genius that surrounds us.

In addition to creating beautiful books about his city, Mark also stretches his writing to include children’s books such as Where the Bathwater Goes, The Worm Doctor, Last Year When I Was Small, My Name is Rocky, and Theresa’s Sock. He’s also dabbled in writing a series of novelty cookbooks such as Goose the Cook, Fifty Shades of Gravy, and Plucked.
